A full day of travel

This was probably the toughest day of travel we have ever had. We picked the kids up from school around 2pm with the plan of driving to LA to catch our first flight heading towards Lima, Peru. We were on a tight schedule to make our flight in LA. When we got to Phoenix we ended up stuck in traffic. We decided that it was worth flying to LA. We drove to the airport and booked some flights. It was around this time that I noticed that my allergies were not clearing up. What I actually have is a cold.

Our children assumed their standard airport travel positions.

Our flight schedule was tough. After arriving in LA at 9pm we waited for a 12:30 departure. We arrived in San Salvador at 7am and had a 5 hour layover.

The San Salvador airport was a modern international airport.

For $10 per person we opted to pay the visa fee and leave the airport. We hired a taxi driver named Manual to give us a tour of the capital.

We speak only a small amount of Spanish so it was nice that he was so happy to try to use small words.

It was expecting El Salvador to be very similar to Guatamala City. It is not really that similar. We discovered that San Salvador was very clean with very good roads and infrastructure. The only disappointment for us was the huge number of US chain stores.
